Book Out of My Past

A book from my past is Night, by Elie Wiesel. I came in contact with this novel during my junior year in high school, at Calipatria High. This novel was our last book assigned for the year, by our English teacher Mrs. Vellas. The book was about the Holocaust in the author's point of view. Elie explains his experience of the Holocaust with his father, he was also  sixteen during the time of this story. I really remember this book because of the way Elie describes the sights seen, and shows us how he survived that gruesome nightmare. Him being forced to work with the others who were fit enough to work, and the heart dropping descriptions of people perishing in their own hell. Reading this made me question how someone can treat another human being like that, even till this day. One scene from story had a young boy that was used and killed, hung in front for everyone to see. The image that popped in my head as I read this was horrifying, but it gave me a bigger picture to realize the pain and suffering these people went through. Another scene that comes to mind when I think of this book is one where the prisoners were being transported, paraded in the streets, and people threw pieces for bread in the cages just to see them fight over it. There are many more to talk about, but these were the two that stuck out to me the most. I truly do  recommend this book to anyone. This book is a real eye opener, and really shows you how serious these conditions were. If you want to dive into someone's experience of the Holocaust, Elie does a really good job in this attention grabbing novel.
